I don't think real S. shoshone is in Idaho
However, the distinction between
S. lineata
and
S. shoshone
seems to be a bit fuzzy sometimes, even though they usually behave as if different species. The specimen in this photo is very pale in color, which is more often seen in
S. Shoshone
, but I wonder if it was still teneral when photographed (soft - having just shed its skin and pigments not fully expressed yet).
Mostly, specimens with a strong well-defined yellow stripe down the back are going to be
S. lineata
. The often cited dark dots on the side of the abdomen are not a reliable distinction between the two (varying within populations), and they also often tend to darken as the insect ages.
