coluoration will allow for species ID, I guess . . .

 
Thankfully an easy one...
This is Tachyporus elegans Horn. Diagnostic coloration: bi-colored abdomen, pronotum without central dark area, and elytra dark near scutellum only. This is one of the few Tachyporus spp. that is easily picked out by color alone. At a quick glance, this is the only one on bugguide thus far that can be ID'd this way.
