"The median area as well as the PM and ST lines and the dark basal area and pale center of thoracic scaling ... I'm quite certain this is a beautiful specimen of Epirrita pulchraria. Epirrita
The median area as well as the PM and ST lines and the dark basal area and pale center of thoracic scaling, aren't fitting of S. magnoliata.

I'm quite certain this is a beautiful specimen of Epirrita pulchraria. There is some variation in the species, but this one represents a typical (and quite fresh) E. pulchraria. Very nice image.

It looks to be correctly placed as a very well marked Operophtera bruceata.

A very good match and with head down admit I did not search far enough. The specimen I photographed was an unusual shade of orangish-yellow in the background plus the markings are right on. I will move to Epirrita pulchraria and perhaps a species page can be created down the road.
