Caterpillar - Hyalophora columbia

Caterpillar - Hyalophora columbia
Acadia National Park, Hancock County, Maine, USA
September 9, 2019
Size: 2-3 inches
On an evergreen tree, either balsam fir or spruce probably.

Moved- Hyalophora columbia
Moved from Cecropia Moth.

This is H. columbia, not H. cecropia; which is recognizable by the very deep red thoracic scoli. The evergreen tree could have been tamarack (which technically looses its foliage in the winter), the host plant of H. columbia. Only the third larva of this species on BugGuide!

Oops! My bad...
Thanks for picking up the error, Ryan.

Moved to Hyalophora cecropia.
Moved from ID Request.
