small male robber fly? - Holopogon sapphirus

small male robber fly? - Holopogon sapphirus
Madera Canyon, Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA
September 15, 2019
Size: 5 mm to tip of wings
Except for the last two tergites, with a different texture and gray color, all preceding tergites have a similar degree of reflectance. It is difficult to accurately represent extremely shiny structures and these abdominal segments are quite challenging to image. On the contrary, the sternites are very concave and dull (see last image).
