Cabbage White Butterfly (Pieris rapae) male - Pieris rapae - Male
Alexandria , Virginia, USA
September 20, 2019
This butterfly was nectaring on blossoms of Rough Goldenrod (Solidago rugosa) cultivated variety 'Fireworks'. The Cabbage White is my most common butterfly. It is probably helped by the ornamental cabbages that are popular here in the fall and winter. In some places the cabbage plants remain through the summer and have proven to be very drought tolerant during this very dry spell in Northern Virginia.
