Stream insect

Stream insect
Cathance Nature Preserve, Topsham, Sagadahoc County, Maine, USA
September 26, 2019
Size: 1.5mm long
Kick-net sample from small stream. Perhaps a Midge pupa or something? Sorry for the poor photo. Did not see this originally but found it in a photo of a caddisfly larva.

Moved from ID Request.

Looks like an orthoclad midge
probably Chironomidae: subfamily Orthocladiinae. Could be a Nanocladius, but would need much better picture!

Midge
Interesting. Do you suppose this is a phoretic from one of the stream larvae?

most likely no, maybe yes
Some Nanocladius species are phoretic/parasitic om aquatic invertebrates. I can not even tell you that this is Nanocladius, let alone which species it may be. It takes observation under a microscope ...

Culicomorpha?
My first impression is shed skin of Culicomorpha.

Mosquitos and Midges
Thanks, John, that makes sense.
