Arizona Moth - Oidaematophorus phaceliae

Arizona Moth - Oidaematophorus phaceliae
Pinery Canyon Road - Chiricahua Mountains, Cochise County, Arizona, USA
June 1, 2018
Size: 33 mm wingspan
Placed here for now as tentative, another possibility is Hellinsia mizar Hodges 6178 according to current MPG, BOLD images. Wingspan for Oidaematophorus phaceliae is stated in BG Info as "Powell & Opler (2009) reported the forewing length 9.5-13 mm." This moth is considerably larger at apparently about 16 mm forewing length. The only information I can find for Hellinsia mizar is the Vargo pinned image stating 28 mm total wingspan, around the large extreme for Oidaematophorus phaceliae. Found on sheet with UV black light.
