Chalcosyrphus metallicus? - Chalcosyrphus metallicus

Chalcosyrphus metallicus? - Chalcosyrphus metallicus
Thistlethwaite WMA, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, USA
September 21, 2016
Looking through old photos of Syrphidae, I found this one. I'm pretty sure it's Chalcosyrphus metallicus. I'm not sure about sex, but it may be a pair.

Chalcosyrphus metallicus ....
Chalcosyrphus metallicus .... two females. Males are holoptic (eyes meeting on frons). The width of frons in 1734348 is a trick of the light and in 1734349 you can see the width between the eyes is the same.

Derp, my bad - thanks! I had forgotten they weren't one of the rare genera with non-holoptic males.

Either anthreas or metallicus
Either anthreas or metallicus, the fully pale front and mid legs make me lean towards metallicus, and see also Bill's comment about orange veins at wing base in anthreas which I don't see here.

This looks to be a male, the other has a much wider eye separation so would be female.
