The "B" denotes "Bombus"

Yes, sorry. This is a Bumble Bee. What I'm wondering is whether it might be: Bombus fervidus; or Bombus perplexus; or perhaps Bombus borealis?

Originally I believed it to be Bombus flavifrons (seemingly the closest resemblance overall), however, B. flavifrons is apparently considered to be a more Western species...

B. fervidus and borealis males both have black bands of hair on the thorax.
I am not familiar with B. flavifrons and some of the other northern species, but this looks like every male perplexus I've seen (entirely yellow thoracial hair is a prominent feature), and it keys out to such in the DiscoverLife guide.

Hold on for an expert, they'll move it to the proper species.

Bombus perplexus male

Bombus fervidus & B. borealis have black on thorax as stated. Bombus flavifrons does not fly in Ontario.

Thank you so much, Molly for your helpful comments. Looks like the experts settled for a general ID of “Bombus” (which I knew). I am in agreement with your observation, and will therefore go with Bombus perplexus male as a species ID, having just completed my own search at the DiscoverLife guide
