Palpada albifrons - Male
Cape May Point/Triangle Park, Cape May County, New Jersey, USA
October 5, 2019
First for NJ, though the BG record from Baltimore, MD is a bit farther north than Cape May. According to the “Field Guide to the Flower Flies of Northeastern North America” by Skevington and Locke, P. albifrons is a “…tropical species and a very rare vagrant to the area covered by the guide.” Location is the butterfly garden at Coral Av. and Lighthouse Av., a.k.a. "Triangle Park". The fly was in the same place on 10/4, but I could not get a photo.
