rove beetle - Halobrecta algophila

rove beetle - Halobrecta algophila
Plum Island, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA
March 18, 2008
Size: ~2mm
Found under a board on the beach. I also noticed quite a few walking around on the beach sand.

It's nice when there aren't any choices once you get to the genus.

head having strong punctures,
general habitus, mode of hair deployment on pronotum, and habitat strongly indicate genus Halobrecta. This is not really an ID, but sufficient so for bugguide, I think.
Nearctica lists but one species: Halobrecta algophila Fenyes 1909 (Atheta)
