Helophilus fasciatus

Helophilus fasciatus
Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York, USA
October 8, 2019
I think this may be H. latifrons because scapes and pedicels appear black (not orange), and black pile on head does not extend onto frons to antennae. But I'm aware of risk of confusion and also aware that latifrons is less common

Helophilus fasciatus ... male
In a zoomed image you can see the scape and pedicel is dusky brown which can be the case in fasciatus. In latifrons they are distinctly coal black. The frons is too narrow for latifrons.
H. latifrons have the markings on tergite 2 noticeably widening toward posterior side margins and males have the inner margins of markings on tergite 2 more square. More rounded in fasciatus.
