Young whitmani or something else? - Ghelna

Young whitmani or something else? - Ghelna
Creek County, Oklahoma, USA
October 7, 2019
Size: 6mm
This smallish one (6mm) was in the middle of a grass field on a post where it had a nest. Rusty orange, not bright, but a little dull orange. White band around the front of abdomen, and white spots on the back, two pairs.
Rusty scales on chelicerae, didn't see any other color. Base "skin" color brown. White scales on sides of cephalothorax and under eyes, plus white "lip hairs". Rusty orange only on top of cephalothorax. Black hairs on top, no dense tufts, however. Pedipalps have a large bulb (pic), and partially white scales.

On the underside of abdomen (pic), two darker stripes edged by white stripes (four).

Immature male? But, what species?

Ideas
Ghelna barrowsi has been unofficially (through field marks) recorded in Oklahoma twice. Once in Oklahoma county and once in Lincoln county. Ghelna 'canadensis' has been recorded in Tulsa county (that may be wrong, but in that general area) and this visually looks much more like G canadensis than the other two mentioned, to me. Great find!

Hey,
Thanks! I do think it looks more like G. canadensis, as well, but I'm not the expert to tell, that's for sure.

...
Took me a while to find, but here is the other G 'canadensis.' It was hiding under Phidippus whitmani for a few years. Now it is just labeled as 'Salticidae," which I find odd but. Tulsa County is where it was found.

Images
of jumpers placed on the Salticidae page are generally in need of ID or further review. Same with any spider images placed at Order and Family level.
Feel free to browse the images in the Salticidae pages, and leave a comment if you recognize any. If I have not previously commented on an image you can ID, email me or I won’t be notified.

There are no taxon review pages at the bottom of the Salticidae taxonomy page that were made for images of similar or unique specimens that need working on as well.

Oh, nice!
That definitely looks like my Ghelna!

Moved
Moved from Phidippus.

Adult
male, and appears to be a Ghelna, resembles canadensis. Canadensis has been recorded in KS, don’t know about OK.

G. barrowsi has been recorded KS and TX, but no OK record as far as I know. Also in AR, so occurrence in OK seems likely.

Sexmaculata has been recorded in TX, and to the northwest. Also don’t know of OK records for the species.

Unfortunately records don’t always help, as in this situation, and they are by no means definitive regarding range.

Will move to genus for now.

Records...
Oklahoma records are just awful. The 2014 Salticidae range maps suggest 39 species occur here, which is obviously just gap in knowledge. Using Bugguide, Facebook, iNaturalist, and my own personal findings, the number of species is actually closer to 95. I don't know of any sexmaculata found in OK, yet, but barrowsi and canadensis (or at least compelling look-a-likes) do occur here.

Do you have
a list of the species in Oklahoma? I'd love to have one, just for a reference for myself. I often look through piles of pics trying to ID something, just to find out something is not even a recognized OK species.

I'm only at about 25ish different ones right now, haven't posted them all here, however.

Creek county
I live in Lincoln county, and would assume the species you have in Creek county are very similar. The species I have documented in Lincoln county are...

Thank you, Jeff,
I think I did look at the canadensis a little closer while trying to figure out this one, but basically threw my hands up in the air, guessing about the whitmani.

Interesting! :)
