The caterpillar that was on the Helianthus maximiliana, looks like it is Sunflower Seedcopper or Yellow Sunflower Moth
Stiria rugifrons. A very cool find! It is locally and uncommon according to David Wagner "Owlet Caterpillars of Eastern North America"
Judy Ascher found the first one. Then we found more.
