Moved from Physocephala.

P. burgessi has a somewhat distinctive hue of red (sometimes referred to as "brick-red") and a single black longitudinal stripe positioned medially on the dorsum of the thorax (and not reaching the posterior or lateral edges).

It is sometimes difficult to separate P. texana from P. burgessi (e.g. in this iNat post, referenced on your own associated iNat post). P. texana is also mostly reddish, but usually with more black spotting and yellow-pollinose markings on the abdomen...and it has two additional lateral black stripes on the dorsum of the thorax ("nudged" slightly caudad relative to the medial one), which usually merge with the medial stripe, making most of the dorsum of the thorax appear black.
