winged ants - Lasius claviger

winged ants - Lasius claviger
goshen, Orange County, New York, USA
October 12, 2019
Size: apx 3-4mm
a large swarm of these just appeared on a warm fall day. My guess is that they are in genus Camponotus but wonder why they are emerging now as the weather is about to get cold. I thought they usually breed in the spring and the females then set up colonies.
