Pretty sure this is a Laphria saffrana, it's not the sharpest of photos, as soon as I got the flash output and everything adjusted, I got this one shot and it took off!

Very nice photo. I always get excited when I see a Laphria. I just love those guys and their big beastly appearance.

On a side note, I think that pic would show better rotated 90 degrees clockwise ... just my thoughts.

Sweet pic Will. This species is way up there on my favorite flies list. I'm heading down to AR and OK in the next few weeks and hope to see one in the flesh down there.

Prey is an adult assassin bug in the genus Pselliopus.
