Blister Beetle? - Lytta magister

Blister Beetle? - Lytta magister
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California, USA
March 19, 2008
Size: About 3 centimeters long.
There were a large number of these hanging from plants just after dawn, every one of them utterly motionless, some of them mating. I saw them flying the previous day in the afternoon, and noted that they were quite loud. My books are unclear if this is in the Meloidae family (Blister beetles) or Cantharidae (Soldier beetles).

Cool!
Maybe they were all doing their morning exercises! LOL! Awesome pics!

The behavior
is described here.

Awesome!
I had no clue what they were up to--that explains a lot! Thank you!

Lytta magister - Master Blister Beetle
