Note, in the bottom right corner, the chunk of flesh this beetle had its face buried in.
The iridescent green/blue edging was more evident without the flash.

From Europe?
It does look exactly like C. nemoralis - is the species introduced here?

The guide page says "Introduced from Europe to both coasts of North America and continues to expand its range inland."
