Catocala retecta - Catocala retecta-luctuosa

Catocala retecta - Catocala retecta-luctuosa
Blanchard township, Driftless Prairies, Lafayette County, Wisconsin, USA

Came to mercury vapor in the woods. I have in my notes that C. retecta and C. luctuosa are identical. Is dissection the only way to know the difference?

Thanks!
I don't know what that means.

haha sorry.
i thought it looked a bit like flebilis

Yes, it does.
Are you confirming that and wanting me to move it?

i think it's more likely to be retecta/luctuosa
retecta/luctuosa occurs in Wisconsin but there are no records that i can find for flebilis. Also this moth doesn't have the dark shading between the AM line & the reniform/subreniform spot See:here

confirmed it was C retecta and you suggest.
