Synonyms and other taxonomic changes
Tribal name from the type genus Cnephasia Curtis, 1826. Generic epithet Cnephasia is from Greek meaning "darkness." (1)
Identification
Holarctic tribe characterized by uniquely derived traits including highly modified ovipositor pads and correlated behavior. The ovipositor lobes are concave, bearing capitate setae, allowing females to pick up dirt and spread it over her eggs. (2)
