Odd Beetles - Thylodrias contractus - male - female

Odd Beetles - Thylodrias contractus - Male Female
Salt Lake City (N40°45.810'W111°51.020'ele4650'), Salt Lake County, Utah, USA

After photography, the male was placed in the container with the female photographed earlier (February). This was the result (easy ID confirmation). Note: the female did not feed on either bird (feathers) or dried insects.

Odd beetles mating
Very cool shot. I just identified my first odd beetle today in 20+ years of handling insect IDs for Texas A&M. The males are relatively obscure and I may have missed them in the past, but to catch male and female together mating is very likely a scientific first. Congratulations on the nice image--even if you were a matchmaker.

Cool shot
and the common name is very fitting.
