Black bee - Xylocopa griswoldi - female

Black bee - Xylocopa griswoldi - Female
Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas, USA
March 18, 2008
Fairly large bees that look like Carpenter bees. Can someone verify an ID for them? They were photographed at the Hans Suter Wildlife Refuge.
