birch catkin bug - Kleidocerys resedae

Size: Maybe around 4 mm?
Could this be a birch catkin bug (Kleidocerys resedae)? I can't imagine where the nearest birch tree would be! PA? We have mostly tall pines, some oak, and then suburban landscaping (dogwood, apple, crape-myrtle, etc.). I don't think there is a birch for miles.

Yup
Thats it. They may feed on other plants besides just birch, I don't know.

Birch
My wife with the botany background assures me, I just don't know what a birch looks like. It seems they are not all 50 foot tall white "telephone poles" found in the adirondacks. Several different kinds were found on a short walk through our neighborhood. Sorry :-(

It sure looks....
similar to the ones I saw recently. There are some images in the guide that I took. (just noticed they were on the page you linked to)
