Additional comment on the Bee Fly
I have followed up on your comment and did some additional, on-line research. I have found that the ones that I photographed look very similar to: Heteralonia rivularis

Perhaps, I can get confirmation on this ... or on another species.

Well...
...I don't think it's H. rivularis, as that species does not appear to occur in North America. If I had to guess, I'd say it looks like something in the neighborhood of Exoprosopa fasciata:



But that's strictly a guess, and could be way off. We'll need to wait to hear from the experts.
