Orange Barred Sulphur - Phoebis philea

Orange Barred Sulphur - Phoebis philea
St. Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida, USA
March 29, 2008
Is this an Orange Barred Sulphur? Can you tell if it is a male or female?

I think ..
the reddish suffusions on the hindwing indicate this a female Orange-barred.

Agreed
I agree 100% - Phoebis philea. And one from my hometown at that. Now I'm nostalgic for a visit to Lake Seminole park.

Thanks for the confirmation
Lake Seminole Park huh? Haven't been out there in a while...maybe I should pay a visit soon. I've been spending all my time at Boyd Hill and Lake Sawgrass. The gators have been a little too frisky at the latter though. Have a good one!

Sawgrass
I love Sawgrass lake. Every time I go back to visit family, I make a point to go to Sawgrass, with the exception of the last couple years. Seems like last time I was there they were doing some kind of remodel/construction/expansion. But I love walking those trails and hoping to spot that big 10' gator by the lookout tower again. Heck, last time I enjoyed just watching the fish in that aquarium at the front after two rounds on the trails. Good times ...

Thanks for helping bring back some great memories. Time for another FL trip!
