Palthis
Likely a Palthis larva, not sure which of the two species though.

Palthis larva
my thoughts exactly but to see the larva in New York in November is a
first! GLOBAL WARMING or just confused insects? thanx for your help.

Expected?
My understanding is they often overwinter as larvae.
