ichneumon wasp - Protichneumon grandis - female

ichneumon wasp - Protichneumon grandis - Female
Pachaug State Forest, Voluntown, New London County, Connecticut, USA
October 20, 2019
Size: approx. 25mm
A wasp grounded nearby as I slowly made way along the trail. Dark wings, burnt orange abdomen, black legs with maybe a hint of white rings and two adjacent white spots on the back of the thorax. It was not flying but looking under leaf litter.

Moved
Moved from Ichneumon Wasps.

Protichneumon grandis (female)…
This female is likely looking for a good place to hibernate over the winter.
