subcortical histerid - Plegaderus transversus

subcortical histerid - Plegaderus transversus
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
March 30, 2008
Size: about 1.7 mm
This is the second one of these tiny subcortical histerids I've found under pine bark. The transverse crease on the pronotum takes it to genus and the oblong, to-some-extent-confluent punctation of the elytra get it to species. There were some extremely tiny bark beetles present whose larvae (which I did not see) might have been the prey of this beetle. There were also a very few, widely spaced fly larvae of various species present.
