Eleodes Gigantia - Eleodes gracilis
Bolsa Chica Wildlife Preserve, Orange County, California, USA

Size: 2.5-3cm
Found crossing a path near (but not on) the beach in coastal brush. From my field guide, I think this is Eleodes Gigantia but I don't see that species in BugGuide yet. Has the taxonomy changed?

more likely gracilis but its impossible to be sure from this photo
