Toxomerus politus - female

Toxomerus politus - Female
Hardin County, Iowa, USA
August 22, 2019
Size: 5 mm
Like others of the genus, this syrphid came to my open car window, readily spent several minutes taking minerals and/or sweat from my skin, then hung out in the car as I drove on. This appears to be only the second BugGuide record for the species. It is not nearly as common in my observations as T. marginatus.

This is a female not a male.
