In the rearing container where I keep the live tenebs (plus one
ro*ve beetle, one
car*abid, and a couple
platy*desmids) I brought back from my California Christmas vacation I discovered a surprise. It was crawling with assorted small teneb larvae. I think there may be four or more species present. I've now segregated most of them to see which larva type develops into which teneb species. Those tenebs I kept in number (and therefore likely males and females present) were
Nycto*poris,
Ele*odes littora*lis,
Eul*abis bicar*inata,
Cibde*lis, and another species I never got around to posting. In addition, there's an outside chance of this
rough-textured Eleo*des, this
Ap*sena, or this
Phlo*eodes di*abolicum having been gravid females when captured and producing offspring. All three were solitary representatives of their species in my live collection although I think the Ap*sena died in the first month.
