Hymenoclea palmii (Beutenmuller) - Hymenoclea palmii - Male
south of Patagonia along Harshaw Creek, Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA
November 1, 2007
Size: 10-17 mm
This western species is known from the washes around southern Arizona, Texas, California and northern Mexico where Burrobush (Hymenoclea monogyra) is found. This late season clearwing species emerges as the desert cools and the plant flowers. This specimen was collected at 4800 feet in the Patagonia Mountains using a ZZA pheromone lure by William Taft and Ned Schaper. The photograph was taken by Ronald Priest of the Michigan State University Museum. More information is available in the "The Moths of North America, North of Mexico", Fascicle 5.1 Sesioidea, Sesiidae by Eichlin and Duckworth.
