big red ants - Pogonomyrmex barbatus

big red ants - Pogonomyrmex barbatus
rural, Denton County, Texas, USA
April 1, 2008

Moved
Moved from Harvester Ants.

Red Harvester Ant (Pogonomyrmex sp.) - workers
One of the several wholly red species of this genus. Workers seem to be roughly the same size, and lack a distinct whitish pubsescence on head and alitrunk. Therefore, I think this one species is not P. badius

Without seeing them in person
Without seeing them in person I would say these may well be P. barbatus.
