Burrowed into the soft cool mud/soil, beneath wood. As later observed and photographed; Once flipped onto its back, able to recover and roll-over immediately.

Lampyridae?
Looking at the sclerotized parts on the back and the small head, I would guess a Lampyridae larva, but without a dorsal image, I cannot be 100% sure.
