Size: 10-16 mm
This western clearwing species (Sesiidae) is found in Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona and Texas. The food plant is Clematis ligusticifolia which is found along mountain stream courses. This specimen was collected with a ZZA/EZA pheromone lure and a Multipher trap by William Taft and Ned Schaper. The species has a long black tail-like process that extends from the last abdominal segment. The photograph was taken by Ronald priest of the Michigan State University Museum.
