Yes, it is quite likely that I goofed with this one.
I was moving moths wholesale out of the I.D. request section into their family, and I didn't look closely enough at this one. I think you are on the right track, and suspect you likely even have at least the right genus. I don't know Geometrids very well, so I can't verify if the species is correct. A quick check on the name didn't give me much information, but it appears to be a northern species, so I don't know if it is in Orange County or not. Here is a page where there are photos of a number of similar species:

Geometrid?
Is it possible this is something in Geometridae? I checked Erebidae without much luck but did stumble upon examples in Geometridae
here
that looked similar.
