Dark southern subterranean termite soldier - Reticulitermes

Dark southern subterranean termite soldier - Reticulitermes
Cedar Key, Levy County, Florida, USA
November 26, 2019
Size: 5.4 mm
Found infesting a dead portion of a still-living sand live oak (Quercus geminata). Using Scheffrahn and Su (1994), this soldier keys out to Reticulitermes virginicus based on the length of the head including mandibles (2.4 mm), width of the pronotum (0.75 mm), and the angle of the tip of the left mandible (curving inward about 75 degrees). I also collected alates (specimen images submitted separately).
