What's the size on this ant? If around 10mm for the body, it should be Camponotus nearcticus, in the Myrmentoma subgenus.

I'll try to do better next season.
These were active even after cooling, up and running, and yes they were large, 10 mm sounds about right.
They have been documented on BG from this county (although I've never knowingly seen them).

They are beauties.
