Eastern Carpenter Bee
Did you get any other shots of the wings?
Xylocopa virginica virginica: ♀

Reassess ID for Ptilothrix bombiformis?
Would Xylocopa have larger wings, a less slender thorax, and more orange thorax hair? Also the Hibiscus host association.

Yes
In general, most Large Carpenter Bees are about twice the size of the Hibiscus Bees. A good shot of the wing veins will settle the issue for you.

Also, all of the Chimney Bee females have a basitibial plate on the dorsal side (at the base) of the hind tibiae. Sometimes you can see it. This is used as an extra foot-hold for climbing up and down in their chimneys.
In those cases and in most cases, it helps to know the gender.
