Size: ~2mm
Collected in a PVC pipe trap(1) set from 13-April to 5-August 2018. Trap was set in a young oak forest.
Three traps were run at this location from April to November, and 30 individuals of this species were collected.

update January 2023 - I've recently collected "true" elongatus from near Chapel Hill, and they are not the same as this species.

I've recently collected "true" elongatus from near Chapel Hill, NC, and they are not the same as this species from southern Virginia.

 
Thanks Curt for the correction
which is now noted in the Caraboid regsitry. Over the years I've been frequently enlightened by the correct "true species" which inevitably occurs with the acquisition of new material. Let us know when you learn the name for this one.
