Tachinid Fly--compare Parachytas

Tachinid Fly--compare Parachytas
Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area, Orange County, North Carolina, USA
August 31, 2002
Size: c. 12 mm
Size is a guesstimate. The plant is Climbing Hempweed, Mikania scandens.

This fly resembles Parachytas shown at Guide to Insects of Quebec--the size given there is in the right range. Pararchytas hammondi is in the collection at North Carolina State University, for what that's worth in this vast family.

Looks similar to Lynette's image from Cumberland County, North Carolina:

Moved
Moved from Tachininae.

Parachytas decisus (Tachinidae)

Thanks
Yes, I had seen that image--that's why I suggested that genus. I just don't know enough about Tachinids to put it in a guide area for sure. I have no idea if there are other genera that look similar, for instance. That particular species is not on the fairly extensive local checklists I have access to, but the genus is. At that point, I feel I should just leave it at the family level, pending some possible future review by a tachinid expert.
