Turkey Run Trail fly - Brachyopa

Turkey Run Trail fly - Brachyopa
Mt Lemmon Turkey Run Trail, Pima County, Arizona, USA
May 24, 2019
Near the edge of a stream, 8,000 ft elevation. Aspen grows not far from here. I am thinking it is either Brachyopa notata or possibly Hammerschmidtia ferruginea.

Moved
Moved from Syrphid Flies.

Pretty sure this is Brachyopa and not Hammerschmidtia - I see no strong bristles on the thorax (though this could be due to the photo) but more convincingly the last segment of R4+5 is quite short compared with long in Hammerschmidtia - see

Within Brachyopa I am stuck between notata and gigas - unfortunately I recall the range for neither and diptera.dk is down these days. The thorax and abdomen seem more concolorous which would suggest gigas but the images here on BugGuide are a bit more ambiguous than the descriptions in Curran (1922).

A second opinion would be very welcome!

Certainly Brachyopa - the wing
Certainly Brachyopa - the wing venation a very good feature. I have sent it to Dr. Martin Hauser.
Note the hind basitarsus is somewhat inflated.
