Nancy, is that the case for all Oecanthinae species that each hole has more than a single egg inside? I was wondering about this. When they are laying eggs, I see them insert and withdraw their ovipositor into the same hole several times. It's completely mysterious to me how they can drill their ovipositors, which appear to be rather soft and flexible, into a stem.

 
The varicornis group lays its
The varicornis group lays its eggs in both directions fromthe hole...two, three or four side by side. The nigricornis species group only lays one egg per hole.I'm not sure about the rileyi and niveus groups. I highly recommend Dr. Bentley Fulton's 1915 article whi h can be accessed on SINA. It is my tree crickets bible ;)

On a completely different note, have you ever seen this? I can't tell if it's a parasite or a disease.
