Perhaps the best
photo of this common species that I've seen. Everything is in sharp focus; excellent technique.
Female, with spots, on left.

Thank you
I spent some extra time on this one. I painted over some distracting flowers, softened the borders, resized, sharpened, and then entered it in a photo contest online. :)

Nice photo
I took some great shots of butterflies with my $149 Fujifilm Finepix A600 camera. I don't have a PC but uploaded the images on my webtv unit and then to photobucket. All my images are right from the camera and no touching up at all. Isn't this how real photography should be? It's not fair in a way that photos that have been manipulated get to be winners. I guess the whole world is phoney.
Please don't get me wrong. I think the photos are wonderful. Just my opinion.

Jane,
digital photography can be wonderful in many ways. There is a place for untouched digital photos as well as ones that are so manipulated you wouldn't even know they started as a photo. There is a place for all types somewhere. I agree that most of my favorite shots, I didn't have to touch up at all. It's all good, unless you're maliciously trying to fool people. Don't pass up the opportunity to learn the wonders for being able to manipulate your photos, it's half the fun of going digital.

Nice shot and
judicious use of PhotoShop. Even when film was the only means of capturing scientific images, there were ways of altering the final result to produce the "original" for publication. Move this here, add this, remove that, etc. It just took more time and breathing toxic chemicals. There were even "photographs" that never had camera and film involved. As long as it improves the image and won't misrepresent the subject, go for it. Now, about that picture of the Monarch mating with the Tiger Swallowtail....
