Sara Orangetip - Anthocharis sara - female

Sara Orangetip - Anthocharis sara - Female
Santiago Oaks Regional Park, Orange, Orange County, California, USA
April 14, 2008
I find these very hard to shoot, with this being the way I see them most often. Aloft, they resemble checkered white, unless you can get a view of open wings from above, when the orange is more readily visible. While sara appears to be a weak and fluttery flier, she's actually quite strong and will go long distances before alighting, which poses problems for the eager photographer. (Particularly the eager, lazy photographer!)
