Firefly at porch light - Photuris fairchildi

Firefly at porch light - Photuris fairchildi
Fredericton, York County, New Brunswick, Canada
July 12, 2007
Attracted to porch light. Cannot remember size, but probably 2 cm.

*
It could be fairchildi, but I did not see the flash pattern, so it may not be identifiable to species.

Moved
Moved from Photuris.

Photuris fairchildi Barber
At this point, all the Photuris specimens found in the Maritime Provinces can be classed as Photuris fairchildi Barber. See:

Majka, C.G. 2012. The Lampyridae (Coleoptera) of Atlantic Canada. Journal of the Acadian Entomological Society 8: 11-29.

Moved
Moved from Fireflies.

Photuris sp.
This is a species in the genus Photuris. Several new species have been discovered based on differences in flash patterns. Morphologically, several species appear identical. Species ID from images alone is thus impossible.
