Dasychira tephra? - Dasychira tephra - male

Dasychira tephra? - Dasychira tephra - Male

Dasychira flummox me, but the best match here seems to be with tephra, shown at MPG as recorded as far north as Iowa. Searching the SCAN (Symbiota Collections of Arthropods Network) database, there appear to be at least three records from MN. Basiflava can (maybe) look similar (see posting by Marcie O'Connor) though the even coloration of that photo (as well as mine) seems to better match the Ferguson plates for tephra. Ferguson (1978 MONA Fascicle 22.2) says the streaked form is much rarer in male than female basiflava and very rare in male vagans. In obliquata, very common here, the dark streaks are thinner and sharply tapered distally (especially in males), so obliquata can be ruled out. Unfortunately I have no voucher specimen.
