Chrysomelidae? - Trirhabda bacharidis

Chrysomelidae? - Trirhabda bacharidis
Galveston, Chambers County, Texas, USA
March 2, 2008
Size: ~1 cm
I think this is in the right place.

Moved
Moved from Leaf Beetles.

I can honestly say...
that I have no idea what kind of plant it was on. I forgot to take a picture. It was a fairly tall bush near the coast. And thanks for the help John and Jane and Rob. I'll move it to its species page.

Groundsel tree
The fleshy, paddle-shaped leaf in this photo is consistent with the uppermost leaves of Groundsel Tree (Baccharis halimifolia), the known host plant for Trirhadba bacharidis - compare with photo (from AlabamaPlants website) of the leaves subtending the pistillate flowers. The shrub habit and coastal habitat are also consistent with Groundsel Tree.

what a beauty
what a beautifull larva!
On what plant did you find it.
The colours remind me more of Chrysochus auratus than of trirhabda. However I think J&J nailed it. Looks to be Trirhabda bacharidis with such larva;
´The larvae are unusual among the chrysomelids in being colored with striking metallic hues´ from the online Alabama key

Take a look at Trirhabda
here and see what you think.
